Why working with us?
Seed and Crop Knowledge Africa (SCKA) has been established to develop and implement strategies, tools and knowledge systems that will complement and accelerate existing mechanisms to facilitate access to data and information along Crop Value Chains (CVCs) with the aim to improve seed production, traceability and monitoring, and to increase the efficiency and sustainability of CVCs.
Born from the IBP
SCKA is an initiative of the IBP that builds on its strong partnership model and local support systems to strengthen the deployment of, and support for, IBP products and services in West Africa. The Integrated Breeding Platform – IBP (an offshoot of the Generation Challenge Programme- GCP ), is a highly successful initiative that has operated across Africa for more than 20 years in promoting and supporting the use of advanced technologies and knowledge of diversity conservation, plant breeding and seed production.
Digitisation of the Crop Value Chain is a game changer
SCKA views the use of digital tools and services to be essential to overcome the current barriers to seed production and traceability (from pre-basic to certified) and to lay the foundations for longer-term access to seed, advisory services and product markets, both formal and informal.
ACTIVITIES AND OUTCOMES
SCKA advocates for and supports the digital collection, documentation, exchange and use of information and knowledge from relevant Crop Value Chains (CVCs) actors including smallholder farmers, plant breeders, seed dealers, extension agents, processors and consumers. It enhance the coordination and efficiency of CVCs to increase smallholder farmers’ resilience (climate-ready, profitable crops) by making CVCs more:
