E-Chain

E-Chain - Knowledge platform meeting the information needs of a variety of stakeholders throughout the value chain. E-Chain is customizable by country and culture.

Management and governance

Who is going to run E-Chain during and after a project, and how can an inclusive and transparent governance system for the platform be identified?

Financial model

securing the funds to sustain E-Chain beyond the end of a project
Step 1

Pre-basic seeds

The seeds of the generations preceding the basic seeds are designated by the expression "pre-basic seeds" and correspond to the generations between the starting material (G0) and the basic seed (G4).

Step 2

Basic seeds

The basic seeds (G4) are produced in a single generation, from the pre-basic seeds (G3).

Step 3

Seed production

Certified seeds come from the multiplication of basic seeds, there can be 2 series of multiplication which are R1 and R2.

Step 4

Certified seeds available on the market

Certified seeds are available on the market. The market makes it possible to network producers.

Step 5

Seeds grown by farmers

The seeds grown by the farmers will be reused at the pre-basic level for the certification process.

The production of pre-basic seeds

The production of pre-basic seeds is a crucial step in modern agriculture, involving careful selection of varieties, controlled multiplication under optimal conditions, diligent field and crop management to prevent contamination, controlled pollination to maintain genetic purity, and finally, meticulous harvesting and processing to ensure the quality and purity of the seeds produced, thereby providing high-quality genetic resources for farmers.

culture declaration

This functionality allows producers to declare the seed varieties they plan to cultivate in the upcoming season. To submit a cultivation declaration, the producer provides information such as the agricultural campaign, variety, seed level, mother seed label, quantity of seeds used, seeded area, and seed origin. Once the cultivation declaration is added, the DISEM (Department of Seed Inspection and Certification) can validate the requests through the ECHIAN platform.

traceeability

The traceability of seeds is a process that allows tracking and recording the origin, path, and destination of seeds throughout the supply chain. This often includes information such as the producer, seed variety, production methods, applied treatments, production date, etc. E-Chain’s traceability module offers comprehensive functionality to track each variety from its general label. By accessing this label, users can obtain detailed information about the mother seed and subsequent generations. Additionally, this module provides the option to represent labels in the form of a pedigree, facilitating a visual and structured view of the seed lineage.

Production

Once the cultivation declaration has been validated, the producer can proceed to the production phase. After production, the producer specifies the actual quantity produced as well as the production date. When these details are provided by the producer, a message is automatically sent to the DISEM for production validation and the generation of the corresponding label for the quantity of seeds produced.

Stock

Once the producer has obtained validation from the DISEM for the actual quantity of seeds produced, they have the option to place all or part of this quantity into stock. The stock reflects seed availability, categorized by variety.

Sale

This feature provides producers with the ability to market the available seeds in stock while facilitating real-time updates to the stock level.

STATISTICS

E-Chain enables decision-makers to access detailed statistics on forecasts, productions, and stocks, while allowing precise filtering by campaign, speculation, variety, and producer.

Catalog

The E-Chain platform streamlines the management of the variety catalog for each country. By utilizing the QR code associated with each variety, E-Chain provides instant access to detailed information such as best practices, attributes, quantity of seeds produced per variety, cultivation declarations, stock levels, sales, and a list of producers associated with each variety.

Producers

With E-Chain, we have a comprehensive directory of certified seed producers. These producers can be added to the platform by administrators or through surveys such as the PRUNSAR-SUPPLEMENT project. To enhance visualization, producers are represented on a map indicating their location. They have the ability to declare their crops, provide information on their production, track their inventory, and efficiently manage seed sales.

farmer module

The farmer module allows to connect seed dealers with the possibility to rate a variety already planted. The availability is displayed based on the location of the connected seed dealer on the platform.
